Each term focuses on a different theme:
Identity
Community
Sacrifice
Discovery

We will study each theme through reading in a variety of genres – poetry, drama, short stories, speeches, novels, nonfiction and memoirs – and writing a variety of essays including literary analysis, explication, and personal narratives. We will also write poems, short response papers, and journals.

The course is structured and paced to give 1 credit of high school English. In addition to the weekly 90-minute class, students are expected to spend 4-5 hours of homework per week in reading, writing and watching home video.
